A Note – The Day Before Independence Day

I think the federal government has gotten worse for working families. It used to be the leader. When we had little ones, I had no problem from supervisors with bringing our children to work with me. Couldn’t take leave if our child care person was on vacation. After childbirth, didn’t have any leave.

The people I worked with played with them, helped me watch them when I had a meeting. It was fun and not a bother. These folks ask about our children still now. And I did my job, even with my children at work. If I absolutely had to be home with sick children or had to leave work for an emergency at their school, I never was given a problem with that.

When I left the federal government, young people I worked with could not do any of this so easily. Children in the workplace seem to have become a bother and something else to complain about, not a joy. What happened? This needs to change. Just my words for this day. The day before Independence Day.
