2013 is finally over. Federal employees had a hard year. After a 3-year basic pay freeze, federal workers now receive a 1% raise. This does not catch up the loss in salary value over the past three years, but it is an increase.
I believe there will be more challenges in 2014. However, since this is a key election year cycle, some politicians may remember that federal employees vote too and as result may calm down their ‘bash the federal worker’ rhetoric just a bit.
Also, I am hopeful that the decline in the federal workforce will slow. New hires may not climb dramatically but after the recent flurry of retirements, I expect a calm as federal workers wait to see what happens next.
Please let me know what you think. What are your expectations (good and bad) regarding the federal workforce in 2014?
